Twenty years after its last full-scale production, Tally’s Blood follows the lives of an Italian immigrant family in Scotland from the 1930s to the 1950s in a tale of poverty, passion and prejudice which travels from the west of Scotland to the sun-baked Italian countryside.
There is hardly a town or city in Scotland which does not have its own Italian cafe, chippy or ice cream parlour (or ‘Tally’) and it is in one of these much-loved establishments that the story begins. Schoolgirl Lucia seals her friendship with Hughie with a secret ceremony in the storeroom of her family’s shop. But will a ‘Scotch’ boy ever be good enough for her aunt? As their childhood camaraderie blossoms into romance, Lucia and Hughie face more challenges than their countries did on opposite sides in the Second World War.
After Perth Theatre the play tours to the Beacon Arts Centre in Greenock, Cumbernauld Theatre, Eastwood Park Theatre in Giffnock, the Macrobert Arts Centre in Stirling, Theatre Royal in Dumfries and The Gaiety in Ayr.
