One of the United States’ founding fathers, Alexander Hamilton, is portrayed in the blockbuster musical Hamilton, based on the biography by Ron Chernow. An immigrant from the West Indies, Hamilton became George Washington’s right-hand man during the American Revolutionary War which saw the former colony of Great Britain declare independence.

Hamilton is credited with laying the foundation of American government. Meanwhile, the powerful singing and eye-popping choreography of Hamilton the musical drama are bringing audiences to their feet in Edinburgh’s Festival Theatre, on its first UK tour, as its score blending hip-hop, jazz, blues, rap, R&B and Broadway tells the story of the birth of the United States and the dedication of the personalities who shaped it. An appearance by King George III adds a touch of comic relief which might appeal to Scottish independents.

The production, by Jeffrey Seller and Cameron Mackintosh, is the first UK and Ireland tour of the multi award-winning show, which continues to show in London at the Victoria Palace Theatre. The tour continues through 2024 around the UK and Ireland.
