Scottish harpist Esther Swift‘s debut solo album Expectations of a Lifetime is a culmination of her musical work to date, from her roots in folk music, her love of dance music to her studies of classical and jazz idioms. Themes on the album are womanhood, metamorphoses and nature, with one of the tracks, Vessels setting music to a poem she wrote following experiencing a miscarriage.
The album is highly collaborative, with guests from the Scottish musical firmament including acclaimed pianist Fergus McCreadie, trombonist Patrick Kenny, musician Dave Tunstall, and innovative genre-defying string quartet Vulva Voce.
The album launch, at Edinburgh’s Queen’s Hall on 14th June, will be a fully-immersive experience, transforming the space into a breathing urban forest, in collaboration with visual artist Oana Stanciu, sound designer Dave House and lighting designer Sam Jones.
