A new art gallery and shop has opened in Aberdour, Fife – a short trip from Edinburgh, on Fife’s coastal path. Ormus gallery and shop was originally a butcher and poulterer, and original features have been retained including its cast iron spiral staircase, rails and hooks, and art nouveau wall tiles.

The owners have aimed to create a fresh and accessible atmosphere in the gallery space akin to a ‘New York museum shop, with chilled music and expressive conversations about art’.

Based around its wealthy trading port on the Persian Gulf, the kingdom of Ormus grew extensively in the 11th century, and the gallery continues that trading spirit of artistic finds, from paintings and prints to ceramics, glassware, jewellery, fabrics and other gifts. A programme of exhibitions features select artists, with July’s including Caroline Dowsett, Alan Campbell, Georgia Green, Moton Studio (whose work is pictured) and John Holt.

The gallery will be taking part in the Aberdour ART Festival (28th – 30th July) and has a series of exhibitions and new curations planned throughout the year.
