Artist and musician Alison Kinnaird MBE is one of the foremost exponents of Scottish harp music and has an international reputation as an artist working in glass. She uses the ancient technique of copper wheel-engraving – so rare it is on the Red List of Endangered Crafts, with only a handful of people practising it professionally in Britain – which she often combines with cutting-edge technology such as LED lighting.
Alison’s work ranges from small, intimate pieces to architectural-scale projects and is in many public and private collections, including the Scottish Parliament, the V&A Museum, the Scottish National Portrait Gallery and the Corning Museum of Glass in New York state. Since Covid lockdowns, her themes have focused more on nature subjects, and you can see some of her work in this Festival exhibition at her new studio/gallery near Leith on Ferry Road.
