Following its sold out run at the Tron Theatre in 2022, writer Eilidh Loan’s Moorcroft is being remounted for summer before it tours Scotland in late autumn in association with the National Theatre of Scotland. Inspired by stories Loan’s dad told her, the play brings together a group of young, working class lads in the west of Scotland as they navigate life and all the challenges it throws at them.
Based on Eilidh’s dad, Garry (with Martin Docherty – Outlander, River City, Gary Tank Commander – reprising his role) has turned 50, but doesn’t feel like celebrating, so he gets his pals together for a kick-about in a bid to make peace with his past and find renewed purpose.
Shot through with brutal honesty, laddish humour, gut-punching sadness and the pulsating energy of young men on the cusp of adulthood, Moorcroft tackles toxic masculinity in Scotland head-on, asking ‘What is a real man?’
