When Kirkcudbright’s Whitehouse Gallery holds its annual Summer Exhibition, there’s always a strong mix of work from some of the best artists and makers in the country. This year the Gallery introduces three of them, for this exhibition. Award-winning professional painter Kate Bentley recently moved from the Lake District to the Solway coast, and while her location influences her subject matter, she also paints narratively, developing ideas from life experiences and the human form. Here she features recent landscapes and seascapes. Sarah Carrington focuses on landscape and coastline around her Northern Ireland home, and her native Scotland, expressing the experience of the dramatic coastline in all seasons and weathers, painted using mixed media. London-based, Scots-born Madeleine Gardiner also paints landscapes, inspired by the landscape and soft hazy light of her native country, and her travels which have introduced other influences.

On top of this, the Gallery is welcoming back several of its most popular artists. The Gallery supports the Own Art finance scheme.
