Alan Davie: Beginning of a far-off World is a celebration of the centenary (plus-two) of Scottish artist Alan Davie (1920-2014), who made his mark as one of the greatest creative forces of his generation. The exhibition features rarely-seen works from each decade of his career, alongside textiles created in collaboration with the Studios, and charts the life of a painter, jeweller, and jazz musician, and includes a series of the Edinburgh College of Art graduate’s drawings, made during the last year of his life. Epitomising his eclectic creative interests, recordings of his group jazz improvisations are available to listen to.
The exhibition is curated by Edinburgh College of Art graduate Siobhan McLaughlin (pictured), who will host curator’s talks (23rd and 25th June), complementing a programme of gallery tours, a film screening, and the opportunity to enjoy a two-day Tapestry Weaving Experience.
A special preview week, 24th – 30th June, offers half-price tickets via the Studios’ website, and regular tickets include entry to the RAPHAEL – Magister Raffaello exhibition at the Studios.
