The theme of Ormus’ winter exhibition, on now in Aberdour in Fife, is human creativity in a digital age, focusing on traditional skills and contemporary handcrafts in the belief that it’s more important than ever to take stock of creativity and embrace the human experience of something hand-made – at a time when AI and computers are dominating the arts. The display features the art of Georgia Flowers, Robyn Kinsman-Blake, Graeme Kennedy, Sarah Diver Lang, Lindsay Grime, Ruth Elizabeth Jones, Philippa Crawford and Susie Redman, whose work is pictured.
On Fife’s coastal path, Ormus gallery and shop was originally a butcher and poulterer, with original features having been retained, including its cast-iron spiral staircase, rails and hooks, and art nouveau wall tiles. The owners have aimed to create a fresh and accessible atmosphere in the gallery space akin to a ‘New York museum shop, with chilled music and expressive conversations about art’.
