The Maclaurin Art Gallery in Ayr is showcasing over eighty works by Barbara Rae CBE RA. A name needing no introduction, Barbara has perceived and interpreted the land throughout her career, often revisiting specific locations frequently to view and capture the ever-evolving environment.
The display features early Scottish works as well as many from her previous Spanish, Irish, and Lammermuir series, offering an opportunity to witness the gradual evolution of her work and how she continues to record the memory of the landscape – changed by human presence over time. It also includes artworks which have never been exhibited before, including graduate work, alongside contemporary pieces featured in recent exhibitions and ones currently in public collections around Scotland.
The exhibition, which will be available to view online from Saturday 15th June, is mounted by the Provost James Rae Trust* and The Maclaurin Trust.
*established to administer the Barbara Rae RA CBE archive of paintings and prints, with the aim of raising funds to help mid-career artists with specific projects that they otherwise would not be able to afford.
