A new exhibition at Glasgow’s Roger Billcliffe Gallery showcases artist James Fullarton, who echoes the tradition of painting typified by the Scottish Colourists, broad, confident brushstrokes with strong, bold colours setting him apart from other contemporary still life and landscape painters. James says, ‘I have developed this group of works with renewed pleasure and enthusiasm in observing subject matter throughout the ever changing seasons in the garden, in the surrounding Ayrshire landscape and in contrasting coastal themes. Finding and discovering new ideas in familiar subjects on one’s own doorstep and interpreting them in a fresh and expressive way is, for me, a continuing and demanding challenge.’
