Once owned by the tobacco company W D & H O Wills, which at its peak employed over 3,500 people and made over 260 million cigarettes a week, 77 Hanson Street is one of 20 former industrial and academic buildings throughout Scotland which have been transformed into creative hubs by Glasgow-based WASPS (Workshops & Artists Studio Provision Scotland).
At Hanson Street, tenants include a large stained-glass department, a ceramics studio, one of the few remaining paper-making workshops in Scotland, framers, photographers, jewellers, sculptors, textile artists, painters and printmakers.
During Open Studios Weekend you can wander the long corridors and visit artists in their workspaces – and of course, buy or commission a unique item. This year there are also Sunday workshops and demonstrations in the main foyer and a chance to win a monetary voucher which can be spent on workshops or art.
