Edinburgh auction house Lyon & Turnbull is offering a selection of paintings by leading Scottish and European artists from the Paisley Art Institute collection as a major part of an ongoing effort to secure the future of the organisation. Featuring around 100 paintings by The Glasgow Boys and The Scottish Colourists, the sale is expected to fetch between one and one-and-a half million pounds.
Run by artists and art-lovers, the Institute has been at the forefront of promoting and supporting Scottish art since 1876, and is often featured in artmag.co.uk. It continues to focus on its original aims, including an annual exhibition for contemporary artists – now in its 135th year.
Post-auction addendum: the painting ‘Paisley Lawn Tennis Club’ by John Lavery sold for £537,700, and ‘Pink and Gold’ by F C B Cadell for £250,200 [- Editor]
