A new gallery has opened on the Isle of Cumbrae, off Scotland’s west coast, showcasing six professional artists and connecting the island to the international art arena. The Hunter Saville Cumbrae Studio and Gallery has kicked-off its exhibition programme with The Cumbrae Six, comprising the work of six artists who, through their innovative, thought-provoking and inquiring work, seek to ‘challenge and contribute to the ongoing material, technological and philosophical value of arts and culture in our society’. They are island residents, and united in their passion for Cumbrae as a place to pursue their artistic practice.
Founded by Janice Hunter and Tim Saville, who studied at the Glasgow School of Art and Camberwell School of Art, London respectively, the Gallery looks to promote the work of emerging and established artists, particularly those who challenge our preconceptions of contemporary art, helping to foster an understanding of the necessity of art in the present day.
